If you are going to use water, make it distilled.

For no streaks, try wadded-up black and white newspaper.

Any foaming glass cleaner has always worked great for me. There are tonnes of different brands, just pick a cheap one

I use Adam's Glass Cleaner. It is the greatest class cleaner I have ever used. They sell various detailing products - I don't like them all but the glass cleaner is amazing. I also like the VRT for tires.

Some of the things mentioned work well. I recently tried a cleaner I really like for any window you want to use it on inside or out - house, cars, etc. Got it from Home Depot in the area where they sell (sort of commercial) window cleaning supplies. Not the usual stuff, but in the area where they sell window washers, squeegies & so on. Don't remember the name, but it comes in a 16 oz. (I believe) bottle, is light blue in color & you put one cap per quart of water. If I remember correctly, it wasn't cheap but a bottle should last almost forever. When I first used it, I was pretty amazed.

I haven't found a cleaner that doesn't leave streaks regardless of what I'm wiping it off with (cotton towels, paper towels, newspaper). If I really want streak free I use any glass cleaner to get the majority of the junk off, then finish with plain water to take care of streaks.

Safelight from the glass repair company has worked well for me and so did EasyOff window cleaner (though years ago). i like the dry newspaper idea, must admit. I'll try Invisible Glass for sure...then follow with newspaper. That sounds like an unbeatable combo. Thx for the info.

I used to use Invisible Glass but lately it's not been very effective. Maybe Stoner changed the formula because all it does now is smear.
I've always like GM glass cleaner. It really doesn't streak. I've gone back to using it and I'm happy with the results.

You might be using too much product. I had a smearing issue with it recently and contacted a professional detailer, who recommended not applying it directly to the windows but instead apply it to a microfiber cloth (sparingly) and then wipe initially, then buff with another side of the cloth. My streaking issues with the product have gone. If your happy with the GM Glass Cleaner, then you've already solved it for yourself.

This works for me:

8 oz alcohol
2 oz sudsy ammonia
tsp dish soap
fill to 1/2 gallon with distilled water

Wipe w/clean micro-fiber towel, X2 if particularly grimy.

Also:

1) Air dry your micro-fiber towels, or put them in the dryer without any of those fabric softener sheets.

2) Clean your glass when the car's been in the garage for a while and the glass is cool. Warm glass + cleaner = film.

I have always had windshield cleaning issues with paper towels and windex/windex products. Then one day I tried Invisible glass...and then I tried Invisible glass with a Microfiber Towel (Yellow Costco Brand) and viola'! Crystal clear glass. Actually I think the key is the Micro fiber towel b/c it cuts and lifts the grime. Use old worn out and washed ones.

Another trick is to use really worn out Micro fiber towels to wipe up oil...they are brilliant!

I use the yellow costco towels also... good for glass and also for wiping dust off the interior.
