Subwoofer in front trunk?

I would have to say that the door of any car, including the 911 is a huge sub cabnet. If it is properly ported and a speaker with plenty of power installed, it will thump. I have a small home sub that has a 6 inch speaker in it about 12X16X16 and it thumps quite a bit in a house which has more space than a 911. A good speaker builder can calculate a port size and tube length for your doors.

Also look at sunfire subs, very small, much thump.

Has anyone ever thought of mounting a speaker under the drivers seat? I have the stock seats, and if I remember correctly, there is almost 10" of space with the seat in the very bottom most position. Even if the speaker was touching the seat, that would be OK (it's only sound waves), and you would be able to allow the port to face front or rear. You would also be able to strap or bolt the sub to the floor with a few "L" brackest which would allow you an all over kind of sound.

Yepper's... That be the one.. and I'm 100% satisfied with all the features.. including size. In my installation I removed the smugglers box lid and mounted it right above. This unit is perfect for my car. I removed all air conditioning components long ago.
and mounted in this location does not interfere with anything at all.

Brian, I don't have a subby as yet

All my speaker components are factory units, however, I plan to upgrade to 6.5" Focal PolyKevlar's in the doors. I'm a bass fanatic, so I may go for the Infinity boot solution. It has had many great reviews, so I don't think you can go wrong.

FYI, Sounddomain.com lists it for $399.95 (USD).

Totally agree, the stock sound system in the pre-89 911's SUCK! I dunno about the later model 911's, mine just plain sux OK, there are times when I love to just listen to the roar of the twin tip exhaust, but sometimes I just wanna cruise and chill to some R&B

The stock system (speakers) in the 993 are very nice and with the cd unit I had installed (alpine) its quite nice. Some bass would bring it right up to snuff! I am going to investigate this a litte further by stoping in at the local vendor seeing what he thinks. I am just concerned about installing it in the trunk and having it muffled.

I can tell you it lay's nicely behind the driver or passenger seat (rear foot well) in my 83sc. It may not satisfy the audio critic, but should do better than the OEM speaker setup. I don't care to hack up the interior and prefer to leave in the factory 4x6 and 4 inch round grilles backed with some better speakers. If I need to, the kenwood can quickly disconnect by unplugging the connector. And if it doen't work out, I won't upgrade my headunit, visit ebay, and stick with the fine sounds coming from the exhaust

Hi Tony, That powered enclosure you mentioned is mostly a woofer the frequency response is way to high 35Hz to 1.5 KHz.. it's more of a mid range set up. Now the INFINITY is most definately a Sub.. with a Frequency Response of 20-120 Hz that is BASS!!! BABY!!

I put a kicker spec'd bandpass box in my porsche. It was 12x12 with an 8" solo baric woofer powered by a Rockford Fosgate punch 75. It sounded great!

I am also running this under the drivers seat. Very easy to install and fits nicely. I ran the controller up to the center console, also the cable is really long for that and I shortened it. I am getting a custom bracket to mount it up to the seat mounting bolts, so it's not sliding around.

Here is a picture of where it sits, minus the bracket yet.

do you have any motor noise? maybe not because it's a sub but I noticed you ran the power and RCA wires together.
