reason to join PCA

Did everyone get a copy of this months pano? One thought
for all porsche owners, say you are traveling and need your Porsche serviced in an area you are unfamiliar with, take this
months Issue of pano out of the glove box and start calling
PCA officer members in the area you are in. More than likely
one of us has had the same problem and a way to fix it without
a tow truck or motel bill and dealer repair invoice disrupting
your trip. all most of us would ask would be reimbursement for the parts and the same curtousey.

My thoughts exactly regarding the "contact list." The only thing I will do is reduce it on a copier and put the sheets front/back so there is less paper in the glove box.

Trivia question? Do either of you PCA boosters know why PANO is such an unusual, for a magazine, size? I've been a member of PCA longer than Porsche existed when I joined. This gives me the ability to razz the young folks... P.S. I'll bet Warren knows...

Paul - good question so here are my quesses:

1. reduced postage expense
2. fits in glovebox / door pocket
3. the printer was bombed of his a$$ when he printed the first copies and misread the contracted size

Us "young folks" eagerly await the answer...

Okay Doug, you were close enough with #2. The dimentions of PANO fit perfectly on the bottom of a 356 govebox...

Thanks.

Now if only I had a 356 to store my Pano's in ....

That's a cool idea, about carrying it with you in case you break down.

right here in wichita, kansas, we hosted the 928 national convention two years ago. I could only dream about the 911/930
contingent showing up in the air capitol of the world. bye the way
no smog checks at the border either.

#4: Fits in 356 glovebox, but too small to line catbox.

Good one Doug. But I also like the idea of keeping a list "in case". My thought if I ever break down away from home.

1. Get to a computer ASAP
2. Log onto Pelican
3. Wait for the Calvary to arrive and help me
4.

But Keith your idea is a great back-up. Yes I am a PCA member. But I'll be honest Pelican (free) has way better membership perks.

Great post Doug!!!!! Gee... wish I owned a cat when I belonged to PCA.

IMHO that is where it belongs, that club lost my attention along time ago.

The best PCA event I have attended was a Club race in Portland Oregon last summer. First time I had been to a PCA event and didn't feel snubbed or ignored by the folks with all their NEW cars. It was like back (remember pwd72S)when we were much younger (kids) kinda racin', with moms and babys in the pits, little kids ridin their hot wheels around, folks camping and having fun, yea there were the big fancy transporters and all the high end stuff too, but it was a family based weekend and the egos were held in check.

But, Stray, the PCA *is* the WCWDP.

. . .as far as I can tell.

But seriously, here's an idea.....

I used to be a member of the Moto Guzzi Owners Club.
(Moto Guzzi is a brand of funky Italian motorcycle for those who have never heard of it.)

Every year the club would publish a little booklet called "Helpin' Hands" (I think that is what it was called).
What it was, was a listing of members telephone numbers, with codes as to what they could/would help you with, if you were travelling in their area and broke down.
Code1: I'll give you a coffee while we wait for a tow truck.
Code2: I have a garage and a Leatherman.
Code3: I have a garage, parts, and every tool a dealer has.
Code4: I *am* the dealer.

There were no names or addresses with the listing. That gave the provider a bit of anonymity should he decide you sounded like a whacko over the phone, and decided not to help you.

While I had several M/G's, they never broke down (mostly 'cause I rewired them...Italian wiring was almost as bad as Brit-bikes), so I never did get to use the Helpin'Hands book. But I think it was still a great idea. Comments?

Gee, I sent in a PCA application over 10 weeks ago and I am still not approved. Rumor has it the Chicago Region screens all applicants. (Chicago area if you are listening please consider me!)

However, Pelican has accepted me whole-heartedly from the beginning. It looks like the Pelican perk wins. Thanks Guys!

Yeah, the PCA is a little "groupy" around here. If you're not a regular, you feel a little weird. Oh well, there are a few of the wrench-it-yourself guys out there. At least the PCA provides the events for you. Go if the current event interests you, stay home if it doesn't I guess. SCCA events seem like the way to go around here. Plus, you can see how your car stacks up against those other than Porsches. I'll find out how I stack up one of these days. Gotta get the car off the jack stands and on the track!

Pano isn't great, but it's okay. A few good ads occasionally and one good article once in a while. Fair classifieds section (prices are a different story). A couple of useful tech. questions once in a while too. Nice pictures if nothing else, eh?

Keith, the national charter of PCA wouldn't allow screening. Anybody over 18 with a Porsche can join. That means a rusted out $250 924 to, evidently, a new sports ute. But, how you get treated after you join? Well, that's my current bone of contention with PCA. Attitudes within the group have changed since I joined...back in 1967.

Screening? What kind of BS is this? This would tell me immediately that I would want NO part of this group of egotistical asses. You should ask yourself WHY would you want to be a part of this group.

You might want to attend a few events before you join. You might just turn and walk away from these phonies.

That's because the Pelican's are a great bunch of people that don't have their noses up in the air.

I may have misunderstood the response from PCA. They made it sound like the Chicago Region reviews (screens) all applications. I will just have to wait and see. I was hoping to get involved with a group who like to race on the weekends and then wrench and drive on the weekdays. I just might learn some things from them.

It seems like the Chicago contingent of Pelican fits the bill. I am just sorry I had to miss the event yesterday at Chris Streit's. I will try to make the next one. Anyway I am looking forward to having some fun behind the wheel at local events.
