I barely reconized anything... is that a 3.0? On mine (3.2) there was no bracket.

Is that just tape on the old fan wires? You need to fold and heat shrik those as they can still be energized by the controller in the cabin.
The bracket on my 3.0 came off with the fan so I can't help you there. You could just leave it there in case you want to go back to stock configuration some day.

Yeah, that piece isn't on the '78-'79 so I didn't have to deal with it. It looks like it would be pretty simple to fabricate a bracket out of a hunk of aluminum flat stock (1/2" x 1/8" or something). Just make an L shape coming up from the stud below.

I built a bracket out of aluminum from Lowes just as described above.
