Heat Backdate Question on SC

For any of you who did the heat backdate on your SC, what did you do with the old heater hose connection on the rear tin? As you can see in the photo below, I got the piece that goes on the left side tin for the hose to pass through, so I don't intend on using the old connection.

I didn't buy that piece of engine tin. I just used 2 pieces of hose for the left (driver's) side. I connected 1 hose from the fan outlet to the old tube coming out of the tin. Then I connected second hose from the underside of that pipe to the heat exchanger.

For the formerly useful heater duct, just cap it by whatever means works. Don't leave it open -- it will be a path for the engine fan to draw dirty air from under the engine.

It's difficult to tell from the picture. Did you cut off the metal pipe in the tin? Or is that on top of the pipe somehow?

Just covered mine with some black heavy duty tape. Seems to be holding up fine.

I just connected the flexible tubing up to the existing pipe going through the tin. It makes a bit of a turn, but works just fine.

I didn't buy the new piece of tin with the hole through it.

I work in construction. So today I found a cap that the electricians use to cover abandonned holes. It seems to be the right size. So hopefully it will work. I painted it black and will try it later.

Is that plastic? Be careful as this is right over the muffler and can get quite hot.

No way. It's metal that I painted black.

The pipe going through the back tin was held in there by rubber collar so I just slide it out.

Mine had 4 tack welds holding it in place. I had to grind them off.

A can's cap , cutted , black , is perfect to do a cap for this hole.

I just bought used tin from a dismantler and powdercoated it. If you have the engine out of the car, why not? The tin can be had fairly cheep. I guess its a personal call on how much detail you want to get into.

I'm probably going to rebuild this engine the not to distant future anyway. I'll do all that then. Right now I have to finish and get this engine back in the car.

BTW is there a trick to attaching the heater hoses. I am having a problem getting them connected to both ends. I have the brown hose like you.

Cut the hose to the required length without the tin in place. Now slide the tin on the hose to the approx. finished position. Attach the heater hose, both ends simultaneous. Slide the tin into position and secure.
