Window regulator

Trying to remove a window regulator from my '75 911. All the bolts are removed and it is loose but it doesn't want to come away from the bottom of the glass. Is it attatched to the glass in some way?

there are two rollers that are in the track attached to the window (the rollers are part of the regulator).
You will have to roll the window down so you can see the track. You should find a spot in the track that will allow you to pull the rollers out.

Whatever you do secure that window, don't want to let it slip and shatter

PM me your email address and I will send you the shop manual to guide you.

The glass is just pinched in the track. It's hard to get back together without some kind of glue, but it should just come out with some force.

All posts above are correct. The window glass is removed from the regulator with the bottom metal track still attached so you must follow Pete's suggestion. If you want the glass out later, follow Rex's suggestion but it's not necessary for just removing the regulator.

I used a screwdriver (carefully!) to open the channel which pinches the base of the window and then shot some windex in there to loosen things up. Once the channel is out of the car you can squeeze it back down to stock width with a pliers or vise.

I am removing my window as well. So that people can see what they are talking about above, here is a pic of the spot where the rollers can go to. I HIGHLY recommend you find the spot rather than remove the window from the frame; it is remarkably easier. Holy crap.

1) Move the window to the bottle of the door.
2) While holding window, grab the regulator frame and slide toward the back of the car.
3) it should just pop out

Getting the regulator out, now that was a pain in the butt.

That's all fine and good unless your 20+ year old window channel is rusty as hell and needs rehabbed. Holy crap.

finally read the above.
be sure to remove the crank also. drop the crank side as low as possible and pull the rear of the window up and out first

ps i also use windex but have found olive oil to do wonders (once the window is out). i guess any non petroleum lube would work. you dont want to take a chance that you might degrade the rubber liner.

ky would prob work too
