Tranny date codes?
Is there a way to decipher the transmission numbers to see if mine is correct for the year/model? No, I haven't sprung for a COA but the engine numbers are correct for the year/model so I just checking on the tranny. The numbers are worn and hard to read, looks like 7335621. The 915 5 speed is in my 73 T Targa
thanks for any help, Steve |

It's all guesswork unless you have a COA, which, incidentally, I just rec'd for my '82 SC. I never really thought about it until I saw the Porsche ad in Excellence, and about the same instant realized that my SC is about 30 years old. The COA told me that my car was completed on October 15, 1981, and the numbers on the COA match those in my car. It's a very nice presentation, in a special folder that includes a letter signed by the PCNA mucky-muck. To me, worth every penny!

I have a 1973 915 with code 7330972. I think your 915 is a 1973 flavor based on the code you listed.
As info these 915's have an "internal" input shaft seal. Apparently, beginning with code 7337375 mods were made later in 73 to allow for removal/install of the seal without disassembly of the tranny. |
