Trouble shooting central locking?

I have a 86 911 wtih central locking. It doesn't work and I am not sure where to start. When I lock or un lock the drivers door with the key both doors lock or unlock. When locked the light on the console lights up but pushing the button does nothing. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot/diagnose this system?

Thanks,

Bernie P

From working on my fog lights, I did notice that center locking switch was connected to the fog light switch harness.

When I replaced the fog light switch, my colored wires did not match so I tesed each line to place in the proper connector. One wire which controled the center lock switch was in the wrong postion but lit up anyways, Once I corrected it, it functioned properly.

Did you do any work in the trunk area behind the blower or turned/twisted the fog light switch around?

Have you tried exchanging the CL console unit?

There are two 2 wire connectors under the console carpeting,
next to the passenger floorboard..

Find the connectors, and attach a replacement console unit.

The console unit consists of a light and a "press" switch that activates/de-activates the
control module in the front boot behind the fresh air blower.

pm me as needed.

Good luck,

Gerry

Check your owners manual. I seem to remember that there is a non-obvious restriction involving the use of the central locking button.
