Thanks Rodsrsr! I'll try and keep it interesting!

Hi people,
well had a bit more success today!, managed to get the engine and box out in about an hour and a half (not sure if thats a good time or not as this was the first 911 engine I've pulled out). all went well with the exception of one drive shaft bolt which was striped :( (not a big deal I use to rebuild drive shafts for a living) So here are a few more pics, hopefully I will start some cutting and welding tomorrow! fingers crossed, I think I'll start with the drivers side rear so I can fit the mounts on the inner skin for the 993 oil reservoir. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325243303.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325243408.jpg |
Hi Adam
was talking with Jason just before chrissie and mentioned some crazy guy forward dating a 75. to a 993 . good to see the project. Interesting to know more about the issues of fitting up the inner 993 structure to carry the suspension. cheers Michel |
Project has come along way keep the pics coming.

wheels
The offset needed for your custom build is significantly different than it would be for a 993 car. When I build wheels for 911 with widebody (930 quarters) I routinely use 4.75 - 5.25" outer rim and 5.5 - 6.5 for the inner. That same 11" rear wheel for a 993 TT would be 3.25 and a 7.5 - so if you do not build your rear wheels right you are going to be forced to used 2 -3 " spacers just to make the wheels work. jdorociak@gmail.com
Jim I do have a set of Speedline Daytona wheels built for wide off set 911 applications.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325824634.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325824752.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325824816.jpg |

I haven't spoken to Jason much lately I know he has a lot on so I thought I'd progress with it as far as I could until I get stuck! (until being the operative word). I did consider doing the suspension out of the 993, but it was really going to need a space frame to be done correctly so I soft-ed out and went for the rebel racing option! |

Just a few today as I'm in the middle of moving so I don't have a lot of time. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325842292.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325842631.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325842790.jpg |

do not forget to move the 993 windshield wiper assembly over as that is another nice touch on the 911 conversion. Jim

Ok people no photos today ( getting ready to head back to work tomorrow ) but I do have a question regarding the 3.2 from my car so here goes..... Has anyone done a turbo conversion on one and if so would I get out of it for less then an actual TT conversion..?? Are there any known problems/power limitations (other then $$$).
Thanks in advance. |
???? Why can't you register a 993 in OZ?
What a waste of a 993 :p I'm doing similar... SC suspension into a '66 ..... but my car had major rust.... and the SC parts were from a totalled car. It looks like you had 2 good cars. If you need a safety inspection, they're probably going to think you DID just switch VINS anyway.... subbed :D |

Basically if the car is available locally, then you can not import it to register for road use (with a few exceptions) this is supposedly to protect the local market. We use to have what they called "the 15 year rule" which allowed the import of any car over 15 years old, however they changed it again recently and put a cut off on it so now it's only for cars pre 1989. The 993 did have A LOT of under body damage on the right hand side not visible from the photos but petty bad once on a hoist! Looks like the previous owner tried to have it fixed (badly) but they did replace all of the rear suspension sub frame so I guess they did kind of try! Finding a lot of filler in the car though so I have my panel beating work cut out for me! Lol. |
anyway.. :)
If you do swap the entire floor.... check this thread.... I dunno how much he spent doing the swap, but it probably would have been cheaper to backdate a 997 GT3RS http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/260064-3-9-rsr-project-my-carrera-reborn.html |

I wasn't on the fourm when 911teo was building it but I've been through the thread end to end! What a project! I think mine is a splash in the ocean compared to that! Thanks for the link anyway though. |
Wow..very cool project!!! Beautiful and inspiring fabrication.
Shame that the 993 cannot be registered and one less of a rare car on the road, even though it will continue to live through your '75. Yasin |
Ok, update time!! (sorry been busy).
well had some bad luck with the drivers side rear quarter and sill, seems like a lot of bog was used to do what could have been a simple repair but its all fixable with a bit of time a patience! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1326625040.jpg The passenger side has come together nicely so far and the factory lower rocker sill is fitting well!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1326625340.jpg so now my attention returns to the front as I'm waiting on parts for the rear. the 993 bonnet latch section has been refitted to align everything you can see in one of the pics I used a laser level to do this. (set the laser on the existing chassis rails and then adjusted the laser on the tripod to keep everything aligned) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1326625919.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1326626012.jpg So as you can see although there has been some progress I still have a fair bit to do! |
