Project 993.....Well sort of.....
Hi everyone!, I’ve been using this forum for a while but have never posted anything until now, so I thought it might be nice to share a build with you all!
Ok so the project begins with a 1975 911s and a 95 993 the object is to use the 993 as a parts car and take as much as possible across to the 75 (the 993 can’t be registered in Australia) The main objective is to end up with a very street drivable car that has some potential on the track as well, and also to achieve the look of the 993 (because I have a soft spot for the 993 shape) I will be doing a fair bit of customizing along the way so feel free to chime in with questions and/or advice. Thanks for reading and I hope you all enjoy the ride! Adam. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323587144.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323587238.jpg |

"Swap" the suspension as well. That is the best part of 993.

Should have the first lot of parts before Christmas. |
Yeah... Its not a bolt on swap :) Rebel parts are great too. Good luck with the project.
|
Have you worked out the registration / engineering of the car once the swap is done?

Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly, my only real concern with the mods is doing the 993 floor/tunnel swap, I know it's been done before but it still makes me a bit nervous! |
Ok, so the strip out of the car is going well so far but I have to say it's not my favourite part of the build! I'm sure just as many of you have been through this process before it can become a bit disheartening as you find all the previous half assed "repairs" (term used loosely!)
In fairness this didn't come as much of a surprise as the car is a 1975 and it did spend a fair bit of life on the coast! So I guess the positive is that this was always going to be a full build and with that said I am very much looking forward to taking to both cars with the plasma cutter! More photos on the way shortly! |
Ok, so as promissed her are a few more pics of the progress, unfortunatly I was a bit late ordering my parts so I'm still waiting on stuff to turn up.
As you can see there is still a lot to do, but I think I'm making progress. Hope you all had a fantastic christmas!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1324979413.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1324979492.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1324979571.jpg |
Hi,
That is just epic! I'm curious, why have you cut the front apron? The panels seem to fit ok on your trial fit. Also your donor car is LHD so I guess you will have to deal with that as well. How far are you planning to go? Are you planning to reuse all the electrics from the 993? |
Quote:
As for the LHD..... well it hasn't caused too many problems so far but it will make it a bit of a pain to work out the electrics if I do need to use any of the harness..... Not sure if I will use it yet the electrical side of things is more of a friends specialty. |
Hi Adam,
Yes please, I will be very keen to see the pictures. I have done some work adapting 964 bits onto my 911sc. Mainly to deal with crimes against good engineering committed by the previous owner. Your project is in a different league. The 993 is one step even more removed from the 911. The detail of this build will be quite interesting. Good luck! |
Hi all, firstly I'm glad I'm keeping you all interested! It's been a fun project so far.
Here are a few more pics from today...... Not too much to report as I just spent a bit of time prepping the rear quarters and the floor section, on another note I'm posting a pic of a 3 piece Simmons wheel I was thinking of using on the car, I know I'm a while away from wheels being a concern but I know the wait time is about 8 weeks for this wheel.... Any thoughts/suggestions on alternate wheels would be appreciated! Thanks. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325073461.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325073567.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325073593.jpg |
If you want the 993 rear suspension also, I've seen it done.
Take the entire inner structure from the tunnel back out of the 993- go completely up the sides from the door jambs and quarter windows- and you have all the suspension points for an easy boltup and you also get the correct length for the 993 quarters and lid. |

Found a pic posted in another thread for you: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1163450321.jpg |
I think it would've been easier to just cut the VIN's out of the 911 and install said VIN's in the perfectly good 993.
