Do you know Logistica Transit LLP ??
Looking for someone that is familiar with, or has used Logistica Transit to move a vehicle internationally. Here's the story.
I am interested in buying a 1996 993 Cabrio. The owner is an expat that moved to England and brought the car with him. Import duties, license fees later, he has decided it's cheaper to send the car back to the US to sell. We have agreed on price, and he will ship the car to Chicago, so I can have the PPI done here. Logistica Transit will coordinate the shipping and delivery. I send them the total price of the car. They will hold the money in escrow. They will ship the car to Chicago, and I will have 5 days to have it inspected. If I like the car, they will send the money to the seller, and I keep the Cabrio. If I don't like the car (for any reason), they will send me my money back, and pick up the car. Sounds straight forward enough, but before I sent $20,000+ off into the internet ether, I'd like to hear from someone that knows these guys and/or has worked with them. TIA - This could be a really nice way back into the P-car community. larry

I would be very very careful....do not have any direct knowledge of the company, but I am in the transportation industry.
I would not escrow funds in another country....my feeling is that once you get the car, you own it.....that is IF you ever see the car. I also played around on their site for a while....I may be a skeptic, but something seems off to me. On one page I was re-directed to this: Ошибка 404 Запрашиваемая страница на сайте отсутствует Возможные причины, по которым возникла эта ошибка: Неправильно указан адрес страницы Проверьте правильность набора адреса страницы в адресной строке браузера Эта страница была удалена с сервера либо перемещена по другому адресу Попробуйте найти интересующий Вас документ, используя навигацию по разделам сайта Перейти на главную страницу Now, I don't know about you....but my business is in the US and my website is hosted in the US.....I woukd think that a British company would host the website in England. The sellers story sound suspect to me as well....all that troule and then sell it BACK to the US....odd.

Classic Internet scam. You are about to get azz-raped (in the financial sense...sorry for being so blunt, but you need to hear it).
http://db.aa419.org/fakebanksview.php?key=45911 http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/03/26/goddard.carscams/index.html Craigslist Car scams * Cars are priced far below current market value. * The seller claims to be in the military and is stationed overseas. * The posting does not include a phone number. * The seller will demand that you use an online escrow service of their choice. * The person receiving the call is referred to as a "pickup agent." * Payment must be wired to or from another country. Western Union is often requested. * The buyer or seller is very anxious to conclude the transaction. Last edited by HunterVonWurst; 04-04-2010 at 06:52 PM.. |

WOW -- OK, I am re-evaluating my approach to this. Not exactly sure how I make sure that this deal is legitimate, and if it is, how I get the car here. Maybe I can work it with the company doing the PPI, and have him hold the money as escrow till the car arrives and is approved.
But, based on the comments, it is likely that this very sweet 993 is just a "sweet dream." That would be sad, but you guys have saved my butt. Wifey isn't exactly pleased with my buying another Porsche. Imagine how happy she'll be if I get scammed to the tune of $25,000. Now, THAT would be a problem!!!! larry

If the deal goes south then you may consider this:
I am the Attorney magistrate for the country of Fon du Lac Poland. Our King has recently passed away and I have discovered that you are aire to a vast fortune. WHat is required is that you send a deposit of $25,000 US dollars, or good faith money to my holding company. I will hold that money and in 5 days, once that money clears our company, I will send you a check for $8,000,000 Once you receive that money, immediately deposit that check and within 10 hours, send me a 10% handling and transaction fee. This is a small price to pay considering you will then have $7,200,00 in your bank account to do with as you please.

OKAY OKAY - I am NOT sending any money to this transportation company. If this guy is legit, then he would be willing to use a different escrow agent - here in the US.
And, yes, I have seen some very nice, low mileage 993's listed both on Auto Trader, and on Rennlist. The issue is that these cars are much more expensive than this one is listed for. Hence the come-on. That is the siren song that drew me to it. It is your good advice that will keep me from participating in this deal. larry

Even if the deal IS legit (which I guarantee this one is not), you are still taking a huge risk getting involved with escrow + sight-unseen vehicles + BS stories + sub-market pricing. Best of luck in your search. |

Hunter:
Your point is very well taken. There is only one way that I would POSSIBLY deal with this, and that would be if it was MY escrow agent. My attorney, my bank, etc. There is no way that I would let him choose the escrow agent. Anyway, it is funny that the article that you quoted from CNN (earlier in this post) quotes exactly the same situation as the one that my seller is stating. Toooooo fishy. If things look like they are too good to be true, they generally are. Those who are greedy end up getting slaughtered at the trough. Yes the car looks good, but it isn't hard to find pictures of some Porsche that is for sale, and "steal" those to make his deal look legit. No, I'm not going to do this deal. And I appreciate your jumping in with the website information that you gave me. Thanks so much. I'll let everyone know when I find and buy a 993. Then I'll be back in the fold, rather on the outside looking in. larry

Just a quick update. After I insisted on an escrow agent of my own choosing, I NEVER HEARD ANOTHER WORD. Scam confirmed. Thanks for saving my butt.
Found a 1995 993 Cabrio in a nearby suburb with less than 60K on the clock. New clutch, and well serviced. I do a test drive on Saturday afternoon, and it that goes well, a PPI on Monday or Tuesday. By Wednesday, all goes well and the creek don't rise, I become a Proud Porsche Pappa again. Thanks for all your help, jabs and quips. larry
