Question Voltage Stabilizer aka Condensor

Found this interesting test results on the infamous Voltage Stabilizer aka Voltage Condensor.

I doubt anyone here has tried it but would be interesting to see it on a dyno, yeah kinda RICEE but very interesting.

Voltage Stabilizers Can Increase Power And Torque - Fact Or Fiction - Import Tuner Magazine

I wondered about the voltage fluctuation while driving as seen on my Voltage readout display

"but would be interesting to see it on a dyno"

Kinda like a 'performance' chip!

For our cars, I would think it does nothing. If you have an unstable power supply to your ignition then it MAY help by ensuring adequate voltage.

If I remember correctly, these were used on Motorcycles to improve performance due to the voltage flucuations they tend to have in their electrical systems.

I saw an article in Car and Driver on a similar device. Per the article (http://www.caranddriver.com/features/fuel-saving-devices-debunked-dynamic-ionizer-fuel-doctor-fd-47-hot-inazma-eco-moletech-fuel-saver-fuel-boss-magnetic-fuel-saver-gearbox) it raise power by about 1-2%.

Nice find and read Harry. I knew someone would dig something up.

Both tests did not test the "MR" Multi-Range Rev type. I may just get it for kicks and test it, it is non-intrusive and plug & play, so I will see.

Personally I think testing the appropriate type is important. I love that cigarette lighter plug gas saver.

I bought a Jacobs Accu-volt for the power supply to my audio amp

the idea is to dial in a voltage for the amp and no matter what your system is putting out the dialed in voltage will stay there.

it also removes any "noise"

if you have a high end system you'll notice a slight difference at high db's audio quality

once you get used to it listening to the speakers without it makes it seem like something is lacking

anyway... I know this unit works and would easily be able to push an ignition system. I'd have more faith in this Accu-volt that the mentioned condensers to clean up a cap discharge ignition feed. It's not cheap either.

I'm not interested in cleaning up my MSD feed and don't have the motivation for testing for entertainment value

If you could stop by you could borrow it. Maybe find a test mule on Long Island to stop by?

Snake oil, but even worse. Your charging system operates in reliance to/on the battery internal resistance which changes with charge level. The PWM aspects of the alternator/regulator REQUIRES a significant level of voltage ripple. Luckily your alternator/regulator is 'way back there in the engine compartment with probably a few hundred milliohms to a battery with ZIP internal resistance using this device.

Whoa WW, that went way over my pee brain

Question is, will using this device as a test or long term hurt/damage the charging system???

Carson Toyota Parts Department stated they sell a ton of these to customers with new and older cars and had zero negative feed back or returns

I would think if a someone forked up $225 for something that did not work, there would be more negative press and dealers like Infinity and Toyota would stop selling this product. Hell, I know I would be extremely pissed and throw it back in their face and demand a refund.

I guess that is what Car & Driver did. Thanks fellas, you saved me from myself yet again

Manufacturer's claim: "but in any event-say the makers of voltage stabilizer kits-there's a lot to be gained by adding an aftermarket system of capacitors to the mix."

Their base reference car was a '95 240SX. They didn't say if this was up to spec. at the beginning of the test. Maybe they could have performed the same test on more than one vehicle to confirm the claims.

I'd say; the magazine wants to push product in exchange for more adv. revenue and readers/subscribers.

But then again, a perfect complement for those that bought a so-called 'performance' chip.
Can we anticipate the claims now:

"I get better gas mileage now. Went from 22 to 24." - JR
"My car starts faster in the morning." - BK
"Better acceleration in the 3K to 4K RPM range." - SW
"My idle is smoother." - EB
"Haven't dyno-ed it yet, but it should result in a better torque curve." - AK

What's in it?

Are there any patent numbers on the box?

"What's in it?"

Most likely just a very large capacitor (multiple farads).

In a Porsche, connected across the battery and with the battery "remoted" from the alternator/regulator, probably no harm even in the long term.

Carson Toyota Parts Department stated they sell a ton of these to customers with new and older cars and had zero negative feed back or returns.

As long as the device does no real harm in the short term, and proof of the positive aspects of use is virtually negligible, why would there be complaints..?

I would think if a someone forked up $225 for something that did not work, there would be more negative press and dealers like Infinity and Toyota would stop selling this product. Hell, I know I would be extremely pissed and throw it back in their face and demand a refund.

Pissed about what..? That you were gullible enough to buy into this bit of snake oil to begin with. When was the last time you heard someone step forward and make that admission?

"..Toyota (st,d)ealers would stop selling this product..."

When was the last time you purchased a new car and were forced to listen to the finance manager's spiel about purchasing a bunch of totally useless, and pure profit, add-ons...or an extended warranty at three times the (st,d)ealer cost..?

Hey, profits is profits.

There are many of these devices in the automotive aftermarket. There will always be gullible people who will buy heavily advertised products. Here's a well-known product, the Tornado Fuel Saver. Many were sold. Platitudes of its effectiveness proves the placebo effect. Scientific tests prove otherwise.

The Tornado Fuel Saver review

I suggest that the more expensive the device, purchasers will be more apt to tout its virtues. Think of friends who buy "the best" or expensive widgets and brag about the product's virtues. Randomly, I'm thinking about Bose audio products, especially their table-top sound system. In the past, it was their pedestal speakers.
