spark plug problems 80 sc
This afternoon I changed the driver side spark plugs. It was way overdue. After hooking everything back up, started it to see if she ran ok. Started fine but did not sound right. Took her for a spin and she ran like garbage. No spunk when pushing on the accelerator. Idles ok. Pulled each of the plug wires off, one a time and when I pulled I could tell that cylinder was getting no fire, replace wire and pulled next. Same symptoms. Any suggestions?

What make, heat range and plug gap did you use?

Sounds like maybe you have a failed plug wire. Swap with another one if possible, see if the failure follows the wire. If not, I'd suspect a bad plug. Swap the plug around, see if the failure follows the plug.
Six cylinders for whatever reason seem to idle fine and drive passably on 5 plugs. It's only under load that you really notice it. Don't drive it like this - unburned fuel will overheat the cat. Ask me how I know that one. Here's a hint, it ended with a phone call, "honey, I need you to bring me a fire extinguisher RIGHT NOW." |

spark plug problems
The parts store did not have the same plug as original but matched it to a champion plug with the same "specs". I always do one side then run it to make sure everything is ok before going on. Glad I did now. Could a vac hose come off somewhere ? The warm up regulator has a hose nipple showing with nothing attached. Could I have dislodged a hose? Thanks

I know you will think that this is crazy, but make sure that you have actually connected your plug wires to the plugs. It is easy to get the rubber boot of your wire caught between the cylinder and the plug and you think it is connected.

Still, post the plug # to verify cross-reference was correct "The warm up regulator has a hose nipple showing with nothing attached. Could I have dislodged a hose?" -- yup, likely vacuum leak

IMO, Champion plugs belong only in lawnmowers and flat head Fords...

.76 is a bit wide.
they did not have NGK or bosch? only use copper plugs, no platinum or anything fancy. i have never heard of anyone changing 3 plugs then driving it.
