This is a 2.4L engine from a 1973 E model 911.

Here's a link to a great resource for VIN/engine numbers--if you can "understand" a bit of German: Porsche 911 Fahrzeugidentifikation

As far as the "upgrade" to S type, that's another story for other members to offer. Just realize you have an E engine which, by many accounts, is a more drivable street engine than an S.

I'm curious, what 911 model are you considering putting this engine into?

Does this engine need a rebuild? If not, then drive it as is, if it does need a rebuild then the choice is clear rebuild it to 2,7 RS specs.

Oh cool. Never thought of the engine going into a 914/6. No need for an RS spec then, a stock E or upgraded S spec will do just fine. Have fun.

Yes my idea is mount oem and later as with the time make changes.

I have one post in 914 categori of my car and is :

conversion to 914 6 GT

But I have now two 911 aircooleds and read this categori every day 4 or 5 times and for a question of 911 engine this is the best place I think.

Thank you guys

and one pic of my two 911

Looks like the engine is in very nice condition. I wonder why it has a red shroud. Maybe a previous owner rebuilt the engine to 'S' or 'RS' specs? That would be nice.

If you are looking for parts I would recommend putting a 'Want to buy' ad in the Pelican classified section and also on the Early S Registry forum. Here is a link.
