Hello, new member, wirh a 911 2.7 project

Hi, I am Tony D'Andrea, and US citizen living in Rome Italy, with a 1977 911s imported from Japan, currently in storage in Australia.

Life is only as complicated as you make it...

I have been trawling the pelican pages for some time, but just recently joined.
I am curious to know if any other member has tried to make a circuit car (track car) from a 2.7 and altered the car's front and rear bumpers without enlarging the rear wheel arches (the 2.7 911S is a narrow body car, sharing same rear bodywork of early cars)

I would like to alter the cars appearanced as I am not a big fan of the 'bumper' design change that occured in 1974, I think it distracts from the overall look of the car, which prior to 1974 was imo perfect and pure). Having said this, I am unsure if backdating the car is the right thing to do. I think if there is a simple front and rear bumper conversion (for a mid 70s car) that simplifies the look of the car and gives it a more 'racecar' appearance, I would be inclined to do a conversion like this.

If anyone might be able to suggest a company making a bumper conversion (for front and rear, without any work required to the rear wheel arches), I would be most grateful.

btw, I would be inclined also to buy something secondhand...I can work fibreglass, 20 years of messing about with sailboats has its advantages. saving money is not one of them.

I have stuff from GT Racing but I believe Getty Design also makes great fiberglass. You could check out the conversion kits from TRE Motorports. TRE Motorsports

Yes, I see many conversions for mid 70's 911s with regard to the bumpers, however they all seem to alter the wheel arches (to accept larger wheels).

Atm I am thinking just to backdate it to get the effect I want. I was just hoping that i could do something in keeping with its 'year'.

I will look up GT racing and Getty Design and TRE now..thanks for the info Flieger. I just checked your garage photos..I think my car wants to be your car when it grows up....

your car is beautiful. I would be keen on doing the same to the front and back, but leave the rear arches as stock and keep the existing boot lid. The tires would have to be whatever I can fit under the existing arches. (maybe minilites!??).

Hi racer x, you car also looks to be in good order. Seems a pity to alter the rear arches on such a good example.

I now realize you want to keep the narrow flares. I think TRE has a bumper that fits those arches.

yes, looking now...i am sure once I start lapping in the car i will want to put more rubber on the rear, hence alter the wheel arches....

I guess I just like the look of the early cars...but they are out of my price range for a good example. The only ones (early 70s project cars) I can find in Italy that I can afford have had the chassis numbers cut out of them....just gotta walk away,..lol.

eh fratellino!!!....come stai!!! I just sent you a pm. small world indeed...I once spoke to the D'Andrea USA business offices some 8 years ago. That is a great guitar pick. They love them here in Europe.
