Real world experience with a Cayenne Turbo Series 1?

I am considering purchasing a 2005 Cayenne Turbo to add a automatic car to my tiny stable of 5 speeds. I found one in the colors I like Dark Teal/Palm Green, right miles, right price. I am just wondering how reliable they are? I know about the coolant pipes being upgraded from plastic to aluminum. (the dealer is checking on the upgrade) The car in question is a 1 owner, always dealer serviced, no stories, no paintwork 05.

The coils have been replaced and the tires/brakes are new. Any other "Gotcha's" to watch for?

I have the same truck " it's really a great car
But the gas consumption is just beyond ridiculous
It's gonna blow your mind if your not used to it.
I spend $400 a month on gas like nothing.

You should also check the high speed vibration in the
Steering wheel" very common and you will never fix it
I tried everything.Rennlist has a good cayenne forum
With lots of DIY topics.

Good luck ,

Choco PM sent THANKS!

Avid - thanks for the feedback. I am blessed to be working out of a home office the most road time the Cayenne will see is as a season driver/weekend long road trip vehicle, so MPG would not be a huge factor for me. But I appreciate your feedback. Aside from the Cardan flex joints in the driveshaft, coils, coolant pipes, any other "gotchas"?

The carfax came back clean... so far so good?

Thanks again,
Andrew

Headlights will make you crazy. Connections are bad and retention design is horrible. There is a Cayenne forum that addresses this. Otherwise, very nice vehicle . . . .

Autocheck sent.

Personally, I'd rather get a pickup or a nice Lexus RX (not really a guy's car but they're nice).

Thanks All. I just got this back from the dealer.

I asked:

"I would like to verify the following have been replaced:
Coils have been replaced hopefully with -08 Part number* 07 version, installed 8/4/10 @ 94,888 miles

Plastic coolant pipes replaced with aluminum "upgrade" kit**Our records show original Cost to replace $2k
*
Cardan Shaft replaced to new version or the center support bearing replaced** Original?, no documentation

Front Control Arm Bushings have been replaced or in good condition Original? no documentation
Does it have NAV PCM 2.0?* Can be updated to 2.0 with map data from 10/2009 Cost $500.00"

They are asking $25,000. 113k miles 1 owner always dealer serviced. I am thinking it is worth $20k tops.

Thoughts?

Andrew

But why buy a 120k SUV when you could get another 912 for that money.

LOL Just amazing how fast these big Porsche's fall in value. Sure it makes the Corp some money, but a whole different kind of ownership experience.

We have an 05 Turbo. Love it. We have cat bypass pipes on it and an IPD plenum. Very pleased. I have even tracked it for giggles. Nearly had a brake fire on the track....

My only issue to date is the headlights. Currently one is testing my patience....

Tons of power, outruns just about everything out there, nice and comfortable, glad we have it.

We are currently averaging 14.5mpg

Cheers

Great info. Can I ask how long you have owned your Cayenne? Is yours a 05 Turbo? How many miles are on your Cayenne?
Thanks!
