Anyone do a compare/contrast with damping applied inside the cockpit on the rear vs pad inside the engine bay?

I removed what was left of my engine pad and scraped away all of the old glue (used orange oil glue remover). Then I coated the area with Quiet Car sound deadener...it works great and looks factory in a dark grey. Water soluble, no fumes and it weighs almost nothing.

I also used it on the inside to reduce noise under the carpet.

The carpet and inside noise damping works great and the engine area helps as well.

You may wish to check out my previous thread at: Installed new PP sound mat....

My local Porsche dealer wanted $120 bucks for the pad, PP is half that. It's easy to do, and IMHO is worth every bit of the effort.

I just replaced mine and it seems a smidgen quieter, but the real bang for the buck is how good it looks. It cleans up the engine compartment quite nicely.

No brainer. Do it and you will be so happy.

I drove my '86 Cab from Detroit to Winchester (Virginia) when I purchased it in January w/o the sound pad. One of the first things I did is to install an new one. It looks so much better and now I can listen to the radio. The installation was a little tricky with the engine installed and I had glue all over my hands and arms, but it worked out fine. I purchased the heavy duty pad from our host.

Dont think the magnets will work. They way you demagnatize a magnet is by getting it hot and cold. So I think they will not stick after not too long

My pad has been held on by magnets for one year and the magnets have the same attraction that they had originally. The pad does not weigh much, it does not take much to hold it on. Do yourself a favor use magnets not glue, much easier and cleaner.

The Quiet Car sound deadener weighs nothing and will never fall apart and you get more space inside the engine compartment.
