Can I cram 15x7 rims under my unmolested 74?

Hello,

I have a 74 911 with original lack of flares in the rear that came originally with 15x6 rims. I have a line on 15x7 rims but I am not sure if the extra width will cause any issues or can I just run shorter tires or tighten up the torsion bars.

I ran 15x7 fuchs with 205 /60 15 tires
and also 15x8 with 205 50 15

Check out my garage and you will see the 74 911.
I had no issues with tires. The front didnt even rub the wheelwell.

205/55R-15 Yokohama AVS ES100s is the best I could do after much measuring (different brands and styles of tires fit different even if the same size). The same tire on a 6 inch wheel that fits may well not with a 7 inch wheel. The problem is usually in the rear...especially if your suspension is worn out or set too low.

Yes, and if you find can them, 225/50/15s will fit with a lot of negative camber even with a 24 inch rear ride height.

Shaun 84 Targa - I love those Magnesium Cookies. I would prefer those over the aluminum painted version but I am told the Mag wheels have the potential to be brittle in the winter cold. Have you heard the same?

I think I have Michelin 205/55-15s on my Accord wagon. I can't imagine the same tire on my 911.

All cookies are simple aluminum alloy, so you will be good at any temperature. I stripped and bead blasted these, 7x15s all around.

I don't know that magnesium is brittle in winter cold, that would pose a problem for both wheels and early mag cases alike.

I ran a variety of wheel and tire combos on my '76 before SC flares. 205/60-15s fit easily on 7x15s all around and are pretty close to the typically stock 25" diameter that Porsche seems to use. In my case, 225/50s needed fender lip rolling and some negative camber, but also help out in the gearing department with their 23.85" diameter.

IMHO, 225/50-15s on 7x15s all around makes for a great looking and great handling combination.

225/45/15 Hankook C71 autocross tires on 7x15 cookies. Lowered with alot of negative camber. If for the street use I would opt for 205 series on 7x15 rims though.

Did you start with the commonplace rim that has a polished lip and black center star? I have access to a beadblaster but I have never taken on the task myself. Any tricks to getting that 'alloy' look?

I run 15X7's on my car with 205/50's all the way around. I run 1\4 inch spacers in the front so I could probably run 215's-225's there, but 205's is about all the rears can take, I think?. I have not tried anything over 205's in the rear, but I really don't want to purchase tires only to find that they rub as my car is pretty low and I run pretty much full camber in the back. I will need new tires this summer, so should I bite the bullet and try something wider, maybe two tires first, install on rear and if they rub move to front and remove spacers?

I'm running 16x7's rear & 6's in the front with 205/55/16 all around. I wouldn't think you would have a problem.
