I'm considering an MSD 6AL (6425) and a TACH adapter (8920) for my 1983 911 Turbo (930).

The original CDI died while on a trip last year which left the car stranded. I now have a rebuilt CDI installed, but I am afraid of a relapse and don't know how reliable a rebuilt Bosch CDI really is. I really don't know the reputation of the rebuilder (Specialized ECU Repair).

I looked at a few options out there and Permatune seems to have a bad reputation, so I am considering this MSD system.

I am assuming that with any of these ignition systems, heat is a big problem and the engine compartment in a 911 is not cool. I see many installed inside the eng compartment, but can the magnetic pick up leads be extended into the car interior and still be reliable?

I would preferably mount this under the driver seat.

Any opinions? (im sure there will be)

I installed mine where the rear seats where. I was surprised just how long the cables where that came with the MSD and ended up cutting them down to install in its current location. Think I cut at least 1.5ft of cable off, not quite sure if there would be enough to reach under front seat. Might be worth contacting MSD and ask the cable length, also ask if they do extensions.
I was going to install in the engine compartment but as you say heat might be an issue, although I did think of installing a PC case cooling fan on top of the MSD, it would wire into the engine compartment real easy!

Anyone else use a MSD unit? I figured that I would have a bunch of responses by now.

I used an MSD 6A for many years (10+?), on my 77S. It was mounted in the same spot as the Bosch CDI and i had no problems with it, heat related or otherwise.

I also have one in my 77 track car and mine is mounted nearly identical to what Al did. I think you may find that you don't need the tach adapter. Also, you don't need (or benefit from) permatune with msd.

You might also consider mega jolt.
