The 902/1 is an earlier gearbox - I think it's a 5-spd
The 5-spd 70-71 transaxle should be a 911/01 Regards, AM

902/1 should be post July 65 5 Speed If there is a 0 in front of the 1 as in 902/01, it would be a 68 5 speeds

that is the issue i have not seen the Transmission yet... I found it odd that a 902/1 was out of a 1971 911? i will see the transmission today. I was under the impression that 1970 1971 has 911 transmission with the black case. when i was told it was a 71 alarm bells went off... am i right to question?

A 911 (70 & 71) has a mag case. The 901 you will see has an aluminum case. Mid 68 and all 69 901 cases were mag. You have to watch for compatible output flanges. Clutch actuation is different, so a 901 & 911 are not interchangeable without some work. Not sure that it would be worth the effort. Easiest to change the guts in this case.

You can use a 911 trans in place of a 901 if you drill and tap the pivot point for the throw out arm in the correct place so that you use the push type arm of the 901.
Remember to plug the original hole with a screw in plug. Bob

So I started the install and realized that the output flanges were incompatible, so any way I can use the 4 bolt 2 pin flange on my 67 6 bolt transmission?
