Got to Use My Lift!

I bought a lift last year. I just have not had the time to put it into use, but decided today to fill it with hydraulic oil and raise my '70 911T into the air so that could inspect a pesky oil leak.

Access to the suspension and the underside of the car is so much greater. While I had it in the air, I welded a poor repair that the PO did to the panel just above the jack point. I then lowered the car to waist high and checked a misfiring spark plug. That was so mush easier!

My car is a work in progress. I drives well, but needs a lot of TLC. I have replaced the suspension pan and both doors and an going to start working on the back of the car, putting it all back to its original white.

My garage could use some organization

Great, you'll love it.

I hope you got some friends because you need to swing the lift 180 degrees.

The cylinders need to be at the front of the car to give you better access to the rear of the car where you will do 90% of your work.

I assembled it on the other side of the garage and moved it over there by myself, so I should be able to get it turned around. No plans on the horizon to drop the engine or pull the tranny, but, one never knows....

I did have to turn mine by myself, not too many people up at 4am...

You'll enjoy the easier access to the rear.

I did drop my engine last year, lots of fun.

nice. What model and brand is that lift. I have seen two available on the Harbor Freight website. The price difference is about 400 dollars for the two. The least expensive is around 980 or so minus any 20percent off coupon.

I bought it from American Automotive Equipment on-line. Seems to be very heavy duty.

That would actually work better for me anyways, as the engine would end up at the end of the garage, where I would work on it.

This engine and tranny seem to be in very good shape. The motor mounts need to be replaced, though. I've dropped them before on other 911's that I've had. The cosmetics on this car leave a lot to be desired.

I picture Surfdwn saying "show me" and miraculously her body repairs herself and changes her color to a gleaming white but only 1 body panel at a time. Did you name her Christine as well?

Nice lift, I purchased a 4 poster about a year ago...LOVE IT.

For me, a lift has been one of those tools where once you have it, you can't imagine how you ever got by without it.

In my case, there is absolutely nothing to do other than push the button when the car is parked, which eliminates the usual 'too much hassle' resistance. I used it yesterday to mount a camera on the back of the car. It was easier to raise the car up than to have to bend down to license plate level. (Granted, it could be that I'm just extremely lazy.)

Today I was cutting and welding some desk legs for a friend, and the lift was great for lowering the big desktop down onto the legs.

It's good for bigger jobs, too.

Of course, if I had 15-foot ceilings, I'd work on getting a taller lift. But the garage is as big as it's ever going to be on my plot of land. So I make do with 20x22 and normal-height ceilings.

Fantastic setup.
