Question Seeking your input & advice about systemsc.com

Anyone have any recent experience with systemsc.com? I am looking at acquiring a spare Bosch Motronic DME ECU for an 87 Carrera (stock).

Need your help in getting some user feedback about their product reliability/quality, customer service, and recomendations. Thanks in advance.

Oh. Wow. I mean, w-o-w.

Ok, first I have a spare dme that I bought for diagnosic purposes from "Specialized ECU". Great guys. You may also contact Ingo (Ischmitz) for one. Never dealt with systemssc as a customer.

If you want to get some feedback from Loren, who is SystemsSC, then you can type this into Google

"site:forums.pelicanparts.com Lorenfb"

Or

"site:rennlist.com Lorenfb"

And you run across the Loren's posts.

If I wanted a control module rebuilt, that is where I'd send it. Loren can be a bit contrarian at times on this (and other) forums, but the man knows his stuff.

Loren takes a hard hit here for being very outspoken about not liking performance chips. At the same time he knows more about the DME's operation then anyone around. He is the best at repairs hands down, the prices are very reasonable, and he is a great source for hard info on the DME's systems.
Just know that he will never be a fan of chips for basically stock 3.2s.

Specialized ECU in FL. They were the company that solved the ECU woes in my 914/4...on the first try.

1-800-328-1425.

Specialized ECU Repair - European Car Engine Computer ECU Repair

At this time I would not even think of using anyone else.

Yeah, and if you do a thread search on Specialized ECU, you'll find that they freely post troubkeshooting guides, wiring schematics, and have a friendly warranty and no hassle return and core exchange policy. Very good customer service is not some sort of Black Magic voodoo.

Smile Thank you very much for the sharing your thoughts and prior experiences...

will keep you posted with our vendor quest for a spare DME ECU unit (88/89 with the "2764" EPROM). We need one as a spare before the PA to CA cross country adventure trek begins this spring...

Please continue sharing and posting your feedback/advice. Thanks once more

I've been using Loren (System C's) Products since 1985. I've NEVER had a bad unit. We use rebuilt DME's, Alternators, Cabriolet top control units, C.D units, etc. and not only have never had a bad repair, but never have we had to replace his parts over time, except of course high milage alternators. I personally have installed many hundreds of his products with NO failures. And talk about support, he may not have the the most detailed website, but he will work with you to help diagnose most issues and his knowledge of automotive electrical systems past and present is unequalled.
And for all you guys using CD ignition systems, please, please use Loren's rebuilt CD boxes. Don't bastardize your car with aftermarket equipment, and certainly don't bastardize an original Bosch CD box with poor quality aftermarket internals.

a&j, you say you need a spare, only in case things go bad?

I doubt you'll even need a spare DME. I'd not hesitate to go cross country without a spare DME. I'd take spare wheel bearings (front) before I took a DME.

Having said that, my spare is on loan to a Rennlist member. If I get mine back before you leave, you are welcome to borrow it, just keep it dry. It's from an '84 but I think it should work on your '89.

rusnak,

I have Allen's car ('87 Carrera) here in Philadelphia that I bought for him last December. Instead of putting the car on a commercial car transport, my wife and I decided to make the cross-country drive. So part of the logistic would be to prepare some spare parts like relay, fuses, FP, DME, alternator belt, etc. and a list of recommended Porsche shops along the Interstate 80 corridor. The target date is either last week of May or early June. Appreciate your generosity.

Tony
