I cleaned my clock!!
Today I finally took apart my VDO clock from my Carrera and sprayed the works with contact cleaner and then replaced the two 272-1028 caps. Now it works great!! Before it would only work when I went on a trip and then shut off a few hours later. The hardest part was getting inside the clock but I did it! Anyway, it took me about two hours complete because I went online (Pelican) and to Radio Shack to get the caps. They were about $3.00 each. So if I can do it, anybody can. Next...dome lights. Still not working. Nick

Dome? check the switch, just fixed buddy's 78 coupe by removing the door jam switch, clean, polish, lubed, insured a proper ground, BINGO, he has dome lights

Draco, the dome thing will just not get better. Cleaned the switch hole, bought a new switch, used shrink wrap, ground seems good. The light does come on in the interior switch mode but not when I open the door. I'm starting to think that the light assembly itself is bad. But in both doors? But I did fix speed control and clock!! Just a matter of time.

You got a deal! You are only 100 miles away! Sorry I did not post pictures. I was just in to it. Did not want to stop. I'm terrible at soldering!

Pull the dome light out and you will see contacts for each "mode"...clean with a pencil eraser or fine sand paper. This fixed mine.

Does anyone have a link that shows where these capacitors are, what specs (so I can go buy them) and a laymans discussion on how to do it?
