Thank you for your time.

Here's how I run mine on my 86 3.2 without the wire separators which are not necessary IMHO:
![]() The 84-85 3.2s run them behind the fan housing too. Cheers, Joe |

wire separators are a good idea. if you cant find any .........take a zip ty wrap loose around both wires, then take another zipty and go in btwn both wires and cinch tight. snip tail off and waaaa-laa..........separators! functional and will add at least 400 HP! LOL!

Is that a bungee cord on your distributor?

Had separators and lost hp that's why I got rid of them.
And the bungee is to hold down my Jeep Cherokee HEI distributor cap. |

OK this is a really old thread - I KNOW!!!
but I was looking for some info, saw the pic in post #3 and seriously am without words!! ![]() (and those of you who know me....know that is something!!) FWIW I used my stock looms and a tapered hand reamer (to start) and a 5/16 reamer in a cordless drill to route my wires with the factory parts - like it? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Don't know if you saw the other recently revived thread, but this is how I did mine...

beautiful KC!!!
loving the heat backdate! Phil, I thought bundling was not desirable? Read a few posts on that -

Ed,
I haven't had any issues yet ... i guess as long as the wires are new and not chafed anywhere i should be good to go. I read up on some of the conflicting posts regarding this issue, although i did like you with my original separators,i reamed the openings .325 as the Magnecores were thicker than the OEM wires ... Cheers ! Phil

I'm curious about that as well. What about the guys that have twelve wires? Often they're bundled together over the fan housing. Really, there doesn't appear to be enough room to have them all nicely separated like KC did (looks good, BTW).

The reason to separate wires is one wire (firing the sparkplug) will induce voltage in a parallel wire.
The closer the wire and the longer the distance paralell, the more the induced voltage. With our high-current, high power CD ignition systems, the more current the higher induced voltage. This is magnetic induction due to the changing magnetic field from the changing current in the wire that is firing. This is undesirable as the induced voltage can actually cause a spark in an unintended cylinder. If that cylinder has the intake valve open and air/fuel mixture is filling the cylinder then it is possible for a flame to go back up the intake. Not good for proper running. For example, when #6 fires, #4 is in ‘intake’ cycle. If the #4 and #6 wires are parallel and in close proximity (clamped and zip-tied together), it is possible to induce a spark in #4. There may also me an electrostatic effect. I am told this is low compared to the magnetic effect. There is no advantage to 'bundeling' the wires. So… Separate your wires. The Carrera separators work just fine. Best, Grady
