'82 targa: Need Window Adjustment?

Gentlemen,

On both my doors, when i close them...the window is always outside the targa top. Is this right? I'v taken the door panel off, looking for an adjustment. But not sure whether its my top or window that needs adjustment?
Any ideas?

It appears that you window is riding too high. There are two bolts under the door panel (a pain to adjust). One will move the window forward and aft, and the other will adjust the upper stop. Just be careful when you loosen the bolts (suggest one at a time), as you can easily just have the window shift significantly and make it worse too, then you're back to square one.

You may want to mark exactly where the bolts currently are on the door so at least you can get it back to the start point if necessary.

Mine is very touchy and I've had to readjust it numerous times (poorly engineered adjustment methodology).

Porsche Crest Targa windows

Davelarue's question caught my attention. I have an 83 Targa and have wondered about this many times' but have always assumed it was the way the window-targa top interface was designed. I always wish my Targa had the mechanism seen on the Boxter Cab top where the window when fully up and in the roof frame, drops slightly escaping the track, on unlocking the door. I have gotten into the habit of always lowering the window slightly before shutting the doors in order for the window to not get hung up on the outside the track into which it fits (as Davelarue's illustration shows). Anxious for one of you pros to step forward with an explaination. Thanks a million.

Targa windows

Thank you Skip. I had better dust off my Bentley shop manual. Going right out to the garage to check this out.

I'm in the garage doing this right now I might have a drive in the sun if i get this straightened out...
Perfect. I adjusted as per Skips instruction, and it got a lot better. Still have a small gap as you can see in the pics. I guess what is needed is a window adjustment inwards? I did this already:
- Adjusted the targa seal all the way out, loosening the four screws and pulling the seal as far out as possible.
- Adjusted the lower window rail as much as i could. The bolt is on the door's side at the bottom.
But, still my windows look like this:

The height adjustment is very delicate. If its too high, the window doesnt fit in the seal. If the height is too low, then there its like in the above pics. What is needed is an adjustment inwards. Any ideas?

Window Adjustment.

After closing the door & window, I placed a strip of painter's tape flush with the seal.

When the window is lowered, the space between the top of the tape and the top of the glass
provides an indication of the required adjustment.

Yeap, you need lower both the window glass plus parallelism and quarter window. It must look like Gerry's above that is a perfect spec
