What is Wayne Building - Part 9...

Here's something I thought of the other day while at the swapmeet in Anaheim. I need a new desk clock. I know that the old 911 and 356 clocks work using a coil that winds a spring-loaded clock every 45 seconds or so. This type of clock can be easily run on a battery. I've always liked the look of the 356 clock, so I found one and had it adjusted / repaired. Then I bought a 356 piston (I think it was $2). My buddy, Erich bead blasted it, and cut a hole in the center. Add the clock, a seal, some batteries, and a 356 / 550 4-cam connecting rod as the base, and you have a really neat desk clock!

I tried to find a 930 flat top piston, and I couldn't easily find one at the swap meet (none where I could buy just *one*). The 911 clock is a little bit bigger - I'm not sure if it would fit in the 3.3 piston, but it's worth a try. If you do use the 911 clock, then try to get the clock that runs with the little coil in the back. I'm not sure which year they made the change, but I believe that the battery life will be really good on this.

I like the 356 clock because it has twelve numbers, unlike the 911 and 912 green-faced clocks.

Thanks for all the kind words. On another note, the 935 full-sized model construction continues!
