Just installed the Renshift = DOUBLE WOW!!
The car shifts so good, so crisp - I had stock shifter with all new bushings and Ed's coupler (huge improvement!) and the car shifted quite nice - but the vagueness was still there, going into first gear you needed to "find" it - go into second, back to first, push hard, etc.
Now it just goes into gear like butter.

...Sans console in my low-optioned '78SC.
+1 for great service and support from both IVANGENE (Ed) and JWEST (James)! I opted for the standard length stick because I'm short (5'4") and sit close to the wheel. The longer stick would have hit the seat in 2nd. 100% satisfied!

It's one of the options with the Rennshift kit from JWest Engineering...

Did you sit in a Rennshift fitted car to verify this?

I'm your height and have short arms, so I'm curious as to what would be best for me.

I always liked the the look of the wood shift knobs in the 908 and 917. The aluminum shift knob installed on the shifter was functional but boring. If I couldn't find a 917-style shift knob that would fit my Rennshift Shifter (915), I figured I would make one.

Well, I found what I was looking for in a wood shift knob. It is made by Zach Knall and I found him over on 914world.com. His username over there is "Vacca Rabite". The shift knob is a work of art! In case anyone is interested, he makes them for standard 915 shifters as well.

I would like to buy it! This is probably going to make you laugh, but I can only get 5th gear by leaning forward out of the seat...

Unhappy Ed's Bushing

Okay--so I have read through the thread, am familiar with the Rennshift having installed one in one car and now putting it in another.....BUT what is this "Ed's bushing." Like I don't know who Ed is, what this bushing does, or how to get one. :-)

I too can recommend the combo of Ed's coupler and the Rennshift. My car had worn out bushings and a Weltmeister short shift kit when I bought it. It shifted like a worn out tractor - definitely not fun to drive. With the new coupler, bushings and Rennshift its basically like a modern car. I also installed one of the 918 wooden knobs - love it. Up next is some fresh Kendal fluid.

Just installed the shifter in my '79. Just curious to check and see why the supplied shift boot does not extend all the way to the floor. Am I missing something?

If you want a boot that goes to the floor, use the Factory shift boot. If you look on the JWest Engineering web site, the only photos that show a boot that goes to the floor is a photo of the Factory boot. The supplied boot does not go to the floor....

JWest sells it for $32.
