Restarting De-oiled Engine

I've been off the forum since October. If you remember I planned to drop the engine on my 911T in the Summer of 2010 and then my wife was diagnosed with lung/brain cancer. She passed about 15 months ago, sadly, and the car has been w/o oil and on jack stands since Summer 2010. I never dropped the engine but must put it back together and get it running for a possible sale.

I suppose I should get the oil lines back on first (!) and fill her up with about 9 quarts and crank her with the coil line pulled until I see some sort of pressure on the gauge. (I've changed the filter and cleaned the screen.) Then give it a try hot and be prepared to add more oil as she heats up.

Is there anything else I should consider? I did notice a large oil drop spot under the transmission; guess I'll check that by pulling the fill nut first.

First off, I am sincerely sorry about your wife, it is always heart-wrenching especially after a fight with cancer and watching what it does.

If you can beg borrow or steal a borescope and check your cylinders first to make sure they are not corroded. Would kill the rings. If ok you may need a little oil squirted in the cylinders to help them seat back down. Also if carbs you may have gaskets that dried out and are no longer good that would affect running. Engines that sit for too long can come up with strange problems.

There is always room for one more woman if she is a 911!
