DC_Targa 05-14-2005 06:58 PM

I was doing a search for Porsche stuff a few years ago and stumbled across a new (at the time) racing game that was exclusive to Porsche's. I downloaded the online demo of Porsche Unleashed and gave it a try. When it asked me for a name, just used my Porsche for an idea, and became 76Targa in that game. I later bought the full version of the game and played it online using the same 76Targa name. After a bit of time I joined an online racing team called the Demolition Crew. So I replayed the Evolution mode of that game to earn all 80 p-cars using a new handle... DC_Targa. When I found PP, I used that name as well. I still play Porsche Unleashed online most nights and keep looking for PP people there. It's been a while since I've seen a Pelican play PU, but a bit ago there was a grand total of 3 that I've seen online. Hey, it's just a game but is likely the only opportunity I'll ever have to drive a GT1!

Cheers,

Dennis aka DC_Targa

I love these old posts that resurface.

I had a friend at one of my former jobs that used to call me Speedracer. I guess because I am a smaller guy, and quick on my feet, well I used to be anyway. The other part is because I love the town I live in.

A Quiet Boom 05-14-2005 08:33 PM

I've explained mine in previous posts but here goes again. I used to drag race a 1981 Ford Mustang, the car was a total beater on the outside as I'd spent all my (at the time bachelor) money on the motor, trans and suspension. People often asked why I never painted the car and my reply was always "hey, it looks good at 130mph down track". Anyway one season I got greedy on the tune on two occasions and blew the bottom end out of the motor, I was leaning the car out as much as possible and running a lot of timing searching for some elusive timeslip. Any both times I blew the motor I just quietly put the car on the trailer and went home. In my mind there is no sense in getting mad over broken parts when you race cars, it's part of the game. Well the second time I blew a motor it was rather spectacular including a loud "boom" several of my racing buddies came over to console me as well as help push the broken car on the trailer and all of them were astonished that I was so quiet about it, a close friend mentioned that I must be quietly exploding inside or some such thing and called me "a quiet boom" the name sorta stuck with me after that and I eventually used it as my player name for Unreal Tournament. After I bought the P-car I signed up at rennlist and eventually here using that nickname. Everywhere else I'm know as rsr911 since my '66 is a narrow body version of an RSR and I had intended on building a copy one day until I decided to go narrow body with the '73.
