well that's cool. I need to look into what it takes to program & download an arduino. For example, is the IDE free/open source? One could calibrate with an ice bath too. I never played with uControllers, but this looks fun.

Arduinos are awesome. I discovered them a few months ago and purchased the Arduino Uno (which has a USB interface). Easy to program although I have to say I have some programming experience and am a bit of a techie. I am overwhelmed by ideas of all of the stuff you can do with them.
