Dansk OEM vs Sport

I've done a lot of reading about exhausts and I've been thinking about this for a few years. I wanted to get some viewpoints.

My car is a '79 SC with 3.2 short-stroke, 10.3:1, PMO carbs, dual ignition. The engine makes a lot of power (by my tastes). The current exhaust is the '74 exchangers with stock '74 muffler.

The exhaust is getting pretty worn so I'm looking to replace it. Probably get SSIs to go along with a dual-in/single-out OEM Dansk or Sport Dansk. I have heard from a very reputable source that the Sport makes 6-8 more hp but is louder.

My goal is to keep the noise level down, so my question is, for those of you with the Sport, how loud is it? Can anyone comment on both configurations? Is there another comparison to be made between the two?

I'm really not looking for 'you should consider this other muffler', it's down to these two.

Thanks in advance!

I've got a Dansk sport with SSI's. No complaints whatsoever.

It's not that loud. I take my car to the track where there's a 95db limit so...

I have a 2 in 1 out Danske sport with SSIs on a 3.2 w/PMOs and do not consider it loud in any way. One of my favorite sounds in the world. Have no experience with the oem version though.

The Dansk sport models are very tame. Just a bit louder than stock, at least in my experience. I have the single outlet Dansk Sport stainless with the huge diameter exhaust pipe and love the sound! Had a dual out B&B stainless previously, it was tolerable, but just didn't sound like a Porsche 911 should sound!

What's great about the sport model is that it looks stock except for the outlet which is bigger. And it still has that stock porsche muffler sound, just a bit louder with a tad more throat.

OK here is a dissenting vote. I've got two 1980 SCs one has headers, no preexhaust and a Dansk sport muffler. And one with all stock exhaust. There is considerable difference The one is sporty on the open road but noisy driving out of my quite neighborhood. And louder than I want ( I'm a old guy and just want to enjoy the ride) The stock system is nice but may be a little choked of power.
I do wonder if there is a muffler that could on the hot rod and tame the noise a bit with out too much power loss? Would that be the Dansk OEM?

Cheers Rich

alphine's engine is screaming for a sport exhaust port and some SSI's! Should be a fun upgrade really. Anyone else agree?

I just installed SSIs with the Dansk 2-in-1-out sport exhaust and love the result. Normal driving seems the sames as stock, when you crack the throttle wide open it's a little louder than stock but has a great sound--I love the pitch. I'm happy with the result.

I love my dansk sport 2 in - 1 out, with SSI's. wouldn't choose any other setup for street driving.

Great input guys! This is exactly what I was looking for.

One thing I didn't mention was about the noise. I don't mind a loud engine under open throttle - that I like, to a certain degree. In that respect the Sport would be better. The thing I don't want is loudness at normal cruising speeds.

For those of you that have the Sport, how do you find the loudness for normal cruising?

Also, I don't think new SSIs is going to make a big difference since I already have the 1974 heat exchangers which (I think) are very similar to the SSIs, but maybe I'm wrong about that. Obviously if the SSIs are better I sure will welcome that.

The last question, for those that have the SPORT version, what type of intake do you have? Going to CARBS made things louder for me with the '74 stock exhaust.

If anything, I was a bit dissappointed when I first installed my Dansk Sport. I was expecting it to be louder than it is. However, I have grown to love it. Kinda like Goldilocks and the porridge. Not too quiet, not too loud, but just right. At cruise, it's just marginally louder than stock. I think Dansk got this one, just right!

Goldilocks, yes, good description. If its louder at cruise it's only a bit to my ear. At WOT though it's just musical.

I haven't heard the Dansk Sport but my Dansk 2in 1out regular SS with SSI is not quiet. It's not too loud but definately not quiet either.

This is my Dansk - sounds much better in person. I think the fact that the car is in the garage and the camera is too close has a negative effect on sound. It purrs at 3k rpm:

Interesting thread. I just ordered SSI's and an OEM Dansk for my 3.0. I'm wondering if I made the right choice now.

The car currently just has a single inlet OEM Dansk on there. (installed by the PO)

I'll report back once I get it installed.
Cheers!

When I looked online for Dansk Sport exhausts, it seemed they were only for the older cars. Will one work on my '87 Carrera?
Thanks,

Steve, does it not drone at cruise like most 2 out do? I'd love to have 2 out, but had ruled it out as I've heard that all 2 outs have drone.
