Aligning the engine lid

What is the best method to align the engine lid?

After spending a few days lately detailing my P-car, I noticed that the engine lid is not perfectly symmetical within the fender lines.

Seems like the best way to fix is to remove the deck latch so the lid is not constantly locking or getting stuck shut, align lid, and replace/adjust latch.

Any comments on this method or any other methods?

If you just want to keep the decklid from locking you might try putting something under the pull handle to keep it from pulling back. I just tried it with a bottle of sunscreen and it seemed to work OK.

I struggled with this until it dawned on me to take the cooling grille out and work on the hinges thru the bloody great hole--might depend on your spoiler/decklid/aircon. config. although this probably wont help much with latch adjustment
