Go for it...more low end also, as well as mid and high

Go for it!! I have the SW chip for 93 octane fuel with the stainless M&K cat bypass, and factory modified airbox (lid opened up) with the paper filter. Great low, mid and top end pull, great sound and fantastic fuel mileage to boot. Steve also offers the best customer service I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. You wont be disappointed.

I put one in my dad's 88, which I drive frequently.

Steve provides great support. After opening up the ECU on the car I found it had a replacement box with the wrong factory chip for an 88. I called Steve and he walked me through how to determine what was in the car. He then offered to exchange the chip for the correct one at no charge.

The chip deffinately improves drivability around town. I don't think it makes the car much faster, just more satisfing to drive around town. I think there is a little bit of hype surrounding these chips, so I was expecting a little more of an increase in power than I felt. Either way, it was money well spent.

I would describe the 88 as sluggish at low RPMs before the chip. With the chip, I would now describe it as peppy. I added an M&K cat bypass and it increased the overall power just a tad more. The 88 still can't keep up with my 81 though

Thats exactly what i found with my 85, i had a 1979 SC before it, and it definately felt more lively than the Carrera, i was quite disapointed with its performance, and it was hard work to drive round town and in traffic.
The reason i spoke to Steve W and decided to give his chips a go, i wasnt expecting any aditional power just better driveability, i was a mechanic for many years and built Tarmac race cars etc, so i know there isnt anything magic going on just plain old development time and experience in knowing what parameters to change within the MAP to gain the desired results.

It's great that we have one guy playing devil's advocate here, BUT...I have sat next to Steve Wong looking at the dyno readings while Sergio Nardi of Game Face Motorsports put my car through the dyno runs. I've seen the before and after graphs and charts, three times. Once after buying a 3.2 for my race car. Second time after a rebuild. Third time after electrical problems forced a replacement DME. On all occasions SW was able to squeeze out an extra 10-15hp. Even more the time I brought in a couple exhaust configurations with me.

Beside that, he's one hell of a nice guy.

I think the SW chip made a difference...better idle on start-up and more power. I also did all of the recommended maintenance including O2 sensor, spark plugs/wires, valve adj, distributor cap/rotor, clean distributor, MAF adjustment, throttle check and full throttle check. I also dropped about 200 lbs in unwanted weight which always helps.

I think the best choice is to get a custom chip that you can measure and get the air/fuel ratio checked. This way you can tell if you are getting improvements.

Steve will be the first to tell you, every one of these motor breaths and fuels a little differently. You will always get a better result if the chip is custom programed while on the dyno.

Regarding his over-the-counter chips, Steve has enough data on these motors, over a long enough period of time, to create statistically significant conclusions to optimization of air and fuel ratios. His OTC chip is not like putting a supercharger on your car, and you might only feel an incremental improvement, but the guys running the POC PDS program see the difference in lap times for sure.
