Seconds Hand in Clock
1988 911 Coupe.
Clock in car keeps time just fine but the seconds hand doesn't work. Any quick fixes? |

I don't think I realized that it had a seconds indicator. I thought it was just a way to mark when you left for your trip? Haha

It's a movable marker to keep time. It's explained in the owner's manual.
When in doubt RTFM.

RTFM was a ******* joke. Cool yer jets.
I would suggest the Bentley manual and Wayne's 101 projects. Excellent resources.

The white marker needle is attached to the glass via the center knob. Rotate the knob with slight inward pressure to move the needle... push the knob or spindle in further to set the time. If your clock is slow or stops working, you probably have a bad, or possibly two bad capacitors. There are several threads on how to change them in the forums........
Tim ditto. As my Grandfather always told me-"when all else fails, read the instructions..." again, who ever thought of a trip or time marker? it does look like a 'seconds' hand..... ![]() |

Here's a link to an '87 owners' manual posted on-line:
1987 Porsche 911 Owner's Manual The '87 & '88 are quite similar, and the clock is explained on p. 33. This manual proved invaluable in figuring out the HVAC controls. It may be possible to purchase reprints of the manual, or find a copy on eBay. I purchase a reprint for my '87 a few years back, and find it helpful and interesting. RTFM is just a fun multipurpose FLA. The M can mean Manual, or Monitor, or even Mind (I guess).

The owners manual "explains" the clock - but not in a way that makes any sense.
The way I see it, you set the white hand to "guess" how long a trip will take you and then you race to beat your original guess. Or, you put in the time that Google or other map program says it will take....then you try and beat it. ![]() |

that second hand in your clock is manual. you just have to turn one notch every second using your preferred hand. either right or left hand works. no tool necessary.
I just keep it stationary so that it is so precisely accurate once every minute. well, at least i'm not lying. ![]()
