Time To Fit Strut Inserts Vs New Struts ?
Re : 911 Carrera 1988.
Wondering What The Time To Fit Strut Inserts Vs New Struts Is ? I can buy some nice struts with fresh inserts fitted recently OR have brand new inserts fitted to my own struts for the same money. Question is relating to the labour saving ........ ? |

New inserts is less labour than installing new struts. Struts require removal of all the stuff on them - ball joints, tie rods, bearings, brakes, etc.

Strut inserts is a 1-2 hour job. Pop off wheels, remove top strut mount bolt, replace strut insert, put everything back together. Replacing the entire strut is more involved and requires special tools (ball joint wrench, TRE puller, etc.).

Strut inserts is the working part of the strut. Unless something is defective or you are upgrading to a larger caliper spacing or coil overs, there's no need to replace the strut housing.
