Throttle Bellcrank on Transmission: Bushings won't fit

Hi Folks,

I bought the bronze bushings as a replacement to my plastic bellcrank bushings that had disintegrated. I have tried all I can to get these pushings into the bellcrank however they seem to be 2-thou to big? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Yep! Had the same problem a couple of months ago. My original bellcrank was still in pretty good condition, so I put it back on and threw the bushings in a box. Didn't want to hassle with return on a cheap part. Perhaps you could alert PP to the problem.

Which ones did you buy, the Weltmeister or the Pelican?

Porsche 911 & Carrera Cables & Controls - Page 6

I recently installed these on a bellcrank and they fit good. I was surprised, because I too had the same problem as you several years ago when replacing the plastic bushings on my '87 bellcrank. The bronze ones didn't fit (Weltmeister I think) so I just stuck the old plastic ones back in there until I obtained some new plastic ones

I'm pretty sure I ran into this same issue a few years ago. After a back and forth with Pelican customer service, I was able to press the bushings in using a vice. They didn't look or feel like they'd go in, but they did; albeit with a very tight fit!

I did plastic ones yesterday. They were too big also. I used the vice to force them in. If the bronze ones are the same diameter as the new plastic ones, I doubt they would go in

Same here about five years ago. I brought the brass bushings and the bellcranks to a machine shop and asked them to turn down the bushings to a tight, sliding fit into the bellcranks. Had to do the same thing on both bellcranks (trans and engine.....brass bushings on both). No problems since. You might be able to do it in your basement with a drill and file. After you put everything back together again (engine console was a looong reach) don't forget to confirm full travel of the throttle plate.

I had the same problem with those Canyon bushings several years ago on my SC.

I chucked them up in a drill press and "turned" them down a few thou' with a file as suggested above.

Have been working great ever since.

Interesting, both sets of brass bushings I bought from pelican for the throttle bushings in both locations (tranny and engine) slid right in. Different tolerences from the factory perhaps?
