Header install,heat concern ???
Hey guys,
In the process of installing some Fabspeed headers and i have a concern regarding the hard plastic oil hose that goes from the bottom of the oil tank to the engine oil cooler. It seems that there is not a lot of clearance,just wondering what other people have done regarding this issue.First thought is to get some high temp exaust wrap and insulate the hose and the closest header pipe.I'm able to pull it up a few inches,will that be enough with the heat wrap to be safe ? I'm also considering some stainless braided hose to replace the hard plastic one. Tie raps are just temporary ... Cheers ! Phil ![]() ![]()

I have Fabspeed headers w/heat on my 3.6L conversion. I have successfully been using the standard "S" hose like you have shown, but have been nervous about its longevity. B&B makes a hard line that replaces the rubber "S" hose - something that's on my list to buy. . .

isn't that line made of rubber rather than hard plastic? if it feels like plastic it means it has lost its suppleness and is brittle (probably from decades of heat, not your recent upgrade). I would replace it.

That hose is on my next purchase list from Pelican ...
Tom,how close is your hose to the header pipes ? Anyhow,i have a heat resistant sleeve and a 15ft roll of 2 inch high temp exaust wrap on order,hopefully it will keep me going for my last two events of the season ! Cheers ! Phil

I'm not exactly sure, my engine is on a stand in my garage at the moment, not in the car. . . Probably 2" to 3"? I attached the hose so it was bent UP instead of sagging downwards to give it more clearance which made me feel better. I just ordered B&B's replacement metal line for when my engine goes back in for piece of mind.

I just picked up a new "S" hose from the dealer today ... low and behold it is rubber !!!
Just when i thought it was made of hard plastic ... lol Got my car "tech'd" today at my local tuning shop for this weekend's 3 day track event and the boys in the shop said i should be good with a high temp sleeve on the hose and the hose pulled up for extra clearance. Going to dump the oil and replace it tomorrow when my sleeve and heat tape arrive. How did i live without headers for the last three years,my car sounds like a poor man's GT3Cup car now ![]() Thanks for the feedback guys ! Cheers ! Phil

If you are concerned, wrap it with heat shield material. Thats what we did on mine and it works great.

Why not use a ceramic coating like Swain or Jethot?
