Wow, I better start doing my research. Thats about what the car is worth so it's basically a throw away unless you have really deep emotions about the car.

I'm thinking your car is worth more than you think.
Do a quick check on NADA classics to see what it may be worth Retail, then take 4-5k off for a reality check.

8 to 10 thousand is an awful lot of money for a simple rebuild no matter how much the car is worth. I'm going to have to start thinking about what I want to do with it. I am definately not going to spend that much on it even though I do love it. It's a shame because this thing really runs good. Actually last time I checked it had good compression too.

I'll do some research on rebuilding it myself with the help of everyone on this board to make sure I don't screw anything up. I'm busy now putting my other toy together and hopefully will be done soon.

being that it managed to pass emissions, you may just want to drive it for a while. is it every 2 years in cali? it's kind of a lot of miles to just do a valve grind only, but people do and get away with it.

Yes it's every two years and I'll just run it until it doesn't pass so I may have awhile before I need to do anything. Of course if it starts burning oil or isn't performing then I will need to do something sooner but I have time so I will start doing research now.

If you put your car in the same category as an econobox Toyota/Hyundai/Honda, then yes your car is a throw-away for the cost of an engine.

However, being that your car is a PORSCHE, an upgraded/rebuilt engine will add value to the car. Because the 3.2 platform is so reliable, a rebuild could last you another 250,000 miles if driven well.

[Unless the rebuild was done by Motor Meister]

I get that but from a purely economical standpoint it's a poor investment. If I'm keeping the car forever and really enjoy it then it may be worth it to try to do it myself if it can be kept in the 6k range. If not then it would be cheaper to sell mine and buy one that is recently rebuilt. If I was rich then I wouldn't be worried about it but I have champagne taste.
