SC Tired Clutch Pedal Return Spring?
The clutch pedal on my '78 SC isn't always returning quite all the way on it's own. When it doesn't return all the way, I can hook it with my toe and bring it out the last 3/4 inch or so. Otherwise, the clutch works flawlessly. I suspect the pedal return spring is the culprit. $32 for a new spring, so I thought I'd ask first. Think I'm on the right track?

Adjusting the clutch cable?

If the spring isn't broken, don't replace it.
Apart from cleaning the pivots and making sure the bushings are good, you can sometimes run a slightly smaller clearance (a little less than 1.0mm) when you adjust the clutch cable and this problem will go away. Make sure you have the preload on the cable correctly and I'm talking about reducing the clearance by a tenth or two at most, so make sure you don't ever run out of free play. JR |

Thanks guys! Sloppy cable was the problem. Adjusted per specs and works perfectly now. Interesting setup when you stop and think; springs helping the cable in both directions.
