Help...
While I was changing my fuel sending unit in the tank the metal cylinder that the float is housed in fell into the tank. Any advice on how to retreive it?

Can you see it in the tank?
Get a set of retractable grippers or use a coat hook to get it out. Remove the gasket to get a little more room. |

two fingers worked for me. mine luckily was still standing straight up by the hole. I put my two fingers down the center of the tube, spread them apart like a reverse pliers and slowly brought it back up out, until I could grab it with my other hand.

I just pulled my sender to have a look at the tank and found a piece of metal in there that I retrieved with a coat hanger. I wish I'd had one of those claw retrieval picker upper things that has a plunger on one and and prongs that pick stuff up on the other end.
It was a lot easier to see in there with the tank empty. Amazon.com: Flexible Claw Pick Up Tool Automotive Mechanic Shop 24": Home & Kitchen |

Back to topic, get that flexible claw, it will come handy in the future as well. And whatever you do, use a flashlight, not a match, to look in the tank... and avoid smoking while doing this task ![]()
