Power top problem. Help!

The power top on my 1986 Carrera Cab is on strike.

I leave the top down (open) for long periods in the summer. (yes, I know I shouldn't) Finally went to put it in the closed position last week and it went down into the lock position but it would not go all the way and lock into place. So I went the other way and tried it again a couple of times and the same thing happened. Then the next time when it got into position just above the locking mechanism it suddenly would not do anything at all either way!

So it now the top is in the closed position just above the locking mechanism. When I push it down so the little actuator rollers are tripped...it will give a clicking sound when I push the rocker switch to open the top but nothing happens. When I raise it out of the receptacles there is no clicking sound so the electric signal appears to be working. Also, the red indicator light on the dash does not go on.

So..........what did I mess up and how do I reset it?

Also, if I loosen the bolts that are in the covers in the back seat to move the top down manually, what is the procedure for resetting it to the correct position?

Thx in advance for any suggestions.
