The pruning shears are certainly not for the car. They are clear evidence that the present owner is a good father. All native Texans (a group I am proud to be a member of) keep these handy when their daughters reach dating age. :D

IMOO: If your friend wants a really nice 911, he should buy the nicest 87, or 88 or 89 Carrera he can find for about 25K to 40K. In the next 5 years he will have had 5 years of fun driving it, instead to agonizing over a chunk of rust. The 70K estimate is way low. Replacing rusted panels and a nice paint job could cost more than he will spend on a really nice 88 or 89.

And he still has to have suspension system, brakes, engine, transmission, wiring etc etc. $100K easily. Restoring these old cars is never a good investment. It is only for people who have a lot of money and want an unusual $100K car that they lie about and say they built it for $30K. There are many guys with $75K Packards that cost them $200K to build. Only two people make out, the body shop and the guy who buys it from the heirs for $75K.

Buy the car. Rip out the engine, maybe the gearbox (depends on if it is original or not) and sell the chassis. He will be at least a few grand ahead and that much closer to buying the car he wants. That unless he is looking for a project.

I'm not buying it as my neighbor is the one who found it and he trusted me with the location of the car. I told him what he needs to know about the car and he will make up his mind soon. He wants to flip it for some profit. I'll keep everybody who showed interest in buying the car posted. Thanks again for all the valuable input.
