Shift lever adjustment: Is right to left adj possible?

What's the best way to adjust the shift lever so it's further from my leg? I believe that I have read in the past the adjustments under the cover that is behind the front seats will let me adjust lever position.

I don't think that you can really adjust the shift lever side to side because of the gates for 5th and reverse.

I guess you could remove the shift lever and bend it in a vice somewhere above the ear for the 5/R gates.

My shifter contacts my leg, but only in 1 & 2. I am not in 1 & 2 all that much, so it really doesn't bother me.

i have a '73 911E with a 915 tranny in it. the only adjustment i was able to make did not impact lateral movement of the shifter.

so after putting in a race seat, in order to clear the seat in 2nd gear, i had to put in a short shift kit. this not only shortened the throw (front to back distance), but is seemed to slightly alter the angle of the front-to-back engagement. i could be imagining the latter, but after i installed the kit, i was free to adjust my race seat as close as necessary to reach the pedal cluster without fear of having the shifter hit the seat.

I wasn't aware that any lateral adjustment was available but my car has the short shift kit and I don't have any problems.

Maybe you want to consider going that route ?

Putting in the factory short shift kit eliminates the shift touching your leg in 1-2 shift. Try it.
