Leland Bushing Help
Trying to install a Leland steering bushing and can't get the bushing on far enough to attach the C clip. Besides the 1st C clip must I also remove the C clip I see on the bearing? I believe that's what the instructions are telling me but just want to make sure before I try to get the 2nd C clip out.
The pic shows where I'm at with the install Thanks Carl

Has the old bearing been previously replaced with the 928 bearing? There should only be the one C clip to remove (I just did this last week).

Yep, just pulled 1 C clip. The other bushing was completely gone.

How hard have you tried to persuade it? I used a length of PVC pipe and some light to moderate taps with a 3 lb sledge, took maybe 3 or 4 taps to drive home. I could not have done it by pressing with my hands only.
BTW -- it completely transformed the car's steering in a very positive way. |

I ended up sanding some of the narrow end off and using a deep socket to seat the bushing. From the pic above you can see the bottom looks seated but still a distance to go before the C clip can be installed.

After e-mails with Mitch (great support BTW) found out I didn't get the 928 sleeve out which is why the bushing would not go in. It was in the instructions, just missed it (go figure). Now I'm waiting for a new bushing that I can install correctly.
Anyway Mitch has been highly responsive to my questions in trying to solve this issue and would highly recommend this fix over others. |
