What's the best adhesive for glueing metal to rubber? Does not need to be heat proof.

Yep. 3M or Permatex makes a weatherstrip adhesive affectionately known in the industry as "monkey snot" It works fantastico. You can get it in yellow or black. Local auto parts store will have it.
