Cruise Control Only Works After I Flash My Headlights

I have a 1985 911.

My cruise control only works if I open and close my headlight switch.

Does that give a clue as to what needs to be replaced?

Thanks!

John

I had a similar problem with a 944 I once had. The cruise would only work if I had 'Mommas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys' by Willie Nelson playing in the cassette deck.

Worst part was that when it switched to the next song on the tape, it would kick out of cruise so I had to drive around with MDLYBGUTBC on repeat. If I turned down the volume, the car would slow down...

It was a bad deal...

John,

I will try to be helpful.

Firstly, are you sure the headlights and cruise are related? Have you made sure your foot isn't on the brake pedal, even just a bit?

If the headlights are related, one possible source could be a bad brake light bulb. Assuming the brake lights are dual element, if you have a bad filament jumpering from your headlight circuit to the brake light circuit, this could be tricking your cruise cancel.

If not, look thoroughly at your tail light wiring.

Also double check to insure the 2 hose on the servo are plugged in to their respective connections in the engine bay.

John, just to make sure. Do you have to turn your headlights on and then off (kind of cycle) your headlights, or does your cruise works with the headlights on, but doesn't work with the headlights off?
If your cruise only works when the headlights are on, but not when there are off, then check where the cruise is getting its power from. Someone may has connected the cruise to a circuit which is only under power when the headlights are on.
