Brake Caliper Application Question

Are these brake calipers adaptable to a '77 911.

Thanks in advance for the input.

After what I've seen you do to a car, there's gotta be a way we can make them work!

Those calipers can be adapted to a 3.5" ear 911 front strut in 2 different ways depending on the rotor to be used. The first way for use with either a stock(282x20) 911 front rotor or a stock 3.2(282x24) rotor is relatively simple, just elongate the mounting holes a bit. This method is not recommended because it gains you almost no improvement in braking distance or endurance and may result in hyperextension of the pistons when used with the thinner rotors. The second method for use with 930 size 304x32 rotors requires machining off the transverse mounts on the calipers and machining in a radial mount and then using an adaptor to mate to the 911 strut. This is expensive and requires an experienced machinist. The benefits of the second method are increased thermal reserves for track events and shorter stopping distances only if larger front rubber is also used. If autocrossing is the primary use then this will not be a good swap because the increased mass will do more harm than good. There are some pics and brief discriptive narrative of a similar installation on my car at 944t/964 brakes on a 911 Please note that my goals in doing this mod were to increase the thermal reserves of the brakes at track events and that I am using significantly larger front tires to take advantage of the potential offered by these brakes /rotors.

The brakes are relatively easily adapted to the rear of a 911 when the 309x28 930 rotors are used. Just plug the stock mounting holes and redrill 3" OC at the proper radial offset and you are done . This is almost a backyard operation. The reason it is not done by VCI et al is liability issues(It is also the reason many great kits such as Mov'it, used in Europe are not offered here). Mine have been used in this configuration for the past 8 yrs with out any issues except for the fact the the rear calipers are designed for use with a thinner rotor than the 28mm 930s, this means that a bit of pad material needs to be sacrificed before initial installation.

The easiest calipers to adapt to the front struts of a 911 are the S4/993 front calipers which are radial mount from the factory, they require no machining at all, only proper rotors and an easily configured transverse to radial mount adaptor. When used with 304x32 rotors they even fit in 16' rims.
