Who can recommend a good lap timer?
I'm looking for a lap timer and g-force meter. Any recommendations/web sites?

MyChron makes a good lap timer. There's another device on the market that plugs into your cig. lighter and measures g-force. I wasn't able to locate that site. Here's a good site for some sophisticated instruments.

I know you said you required a good unit, so this may not suffice. I have a 10 lap el cheapo stop watch velcro'ed to the steering wheel spoke. Click over the line each lap. Works a treat.

I use a Hot Lap which I bought from Stable Energies. Great system, never had a problem (owned it since 1993!). Following is a picture of the kit:

Yeah, if you need an in-car lap timer for the track, then the Hot Lap is the way to go. You don't want to be hitting stopwatch buttons while you're driving, and Hot Lap is the accepted standard, at least out here in California.
