Battery Switch Affecting Startup?

Hey everybody,

So I just installed a battery switch (purchased from our host), but I've noticed that the start isn't quite as strong as before.

I just replaced my battery & alternator about 1 month ago, and it was starting pretty easily and strongly.

Is it possible that the switch is affecting the current?

Here is a picture of the switch. Maybe I need to pound it on a little more?

Thanks for any help!

Try it without the switch. If it improves then you have found the problem.
There was a thread here just recently about these switches having poor quality for some makes.

Every connection in electrical has a certain amount of resistance.
If the resistance is enough...the voltage drop across will add up to having not enough to run the starter efficiently.
After you try to start...feel the battery switch...if it's warm...you have resistance.
Get a better switch.

Thank you all very much.

I think the clamp (lower left corner) can maybe go on a little more. Can that have anything to do with it?

I'll definitely check the temp on the switch after my next start. Nice tip!

the old Moroso green battery "switch" like that was pretty good but the current crop are all made you know where and Nt Wrth Sht.

You can get the Hella battery cut off switch off eboy for under 20 bucks, they FAR better with beefy contacts to handle the high current.

Yes, you have to mount it but the end result is totally worth it.

But yes to your question.

Key wording: "Keep CLEAN & TIGHT"

At the level of current the starter requires even a slight resistance can drop a volt or 2.

Haha. Thank you. I new I was going to have to replace my headlight switch soon as well as store it. I thought it would be convenient for when I did the replacement and for when I store it for winter.

Is it not a good idea to turn off the battery for winter?
