Looking for a bulk supplier of Heater hose....still
All the places I can find are Aviation suppliers and they want a minimum order of 10-20 feet......
SCAT or SCEET is the what it's called....SCAT is single walled and SCEET is double walled.....anyways, when VWs were still air cooled the bug and dune buggy shops all had them in stock in rolls. Now that all those stores are closed, the supply is either in short 18 inch lengths or have to buy from the Aviation Supply shops online..... Anyone have a connection or want to do a group buy? 8-10 a foot is Fuch'n rediculous....especially when you gotta buy 10-20 feet..... I'm looking at 2.5 inch and 3 inch to plumb my 3.6 Heat Exchangers... TIA

Last time(a couple months ago) I was at Aircraft Spruce in Corona they didn't have a minimum length requirement for their SCAT tube.

Hmmmm, Sure Marine Service, Inc. * Since 1972 * Marine Heating, Air Conditioning, and Galley Equipment It's not SCAT but it's the type used in the old school VWs that I'm used to.
These guys seem to be pretty reasonable. 60mm for the HEs to the bulkheads and the 3 inch for the blower to the HEs..... Thanks for the suggestions.... Last edited by Joe Bob; 10-18-2010 at 10:33 PM.. |

I buy that type of tubing from my local small airport maintenance shop. They will sell to me by the foot. Tom

I went with Racer Parts Wholesale, they were MUCH cheaper than the others I found:
Thermoid High-Temp Ducting I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but it's an option for those interested in buying a full length.

I just got the pieces for my car. I've got some existing 2" ducting up by the rear seat. And I knew I needed 3" ducting to wrap around the exits from the exchangers. So I got 5' of 3" Webasto 'High Temperature Ducting' from a place called Sure Marine Service in Seattle. It was $25.
![]() Then I got a pair of 3" to 2" reducers through Amazon. They'll let me mate the two together. ![]() They were $6 each. It bugs me to pay $37 for all this stuff, but what are you going to do? I'm putting in new axles next week and I figured that would be a great time to do the ducting. I'll post how it works.

abides.

Be sure to secure those fittings well. I was using a plastic Y to route air into the heat exchangers, and twice now the hoses have slipped off letting the Y melt on the exhaust.

Pegasus racing is yet another internet source for this stuff.

For anyone who has used this stuff in all it's variants (SCAT, CAT, SCEET, CEET):
Can it be slipped and clamped over an ellipse/oval? Just using 5" dia. ducting and at most a 3:2 aspect ratio. Nothing too crazy. I just don't know how flexible they are this way. I don't have enough real estate to use a round profile through a bulkhead. Nor do I have enough to do two smaller round sections. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. ![]() ![]() (borrowed from the Aircraft Spruce website) Tim K |

Yes, 3" tubing will fit over the oval exit port from the heat exchangers. I used an ordinary hose clamp.
![]() ![]() I used a reducer to my existing heater tubes. My mistake was to assume they were 2". They're actually 2.5". So I just kinked it shut. ![]() It's nice to have heat. Or at least it will be nice, once Los Angeles' weather gets back in line with the calendar. Right now it's 96°.

Thanks guys,
I'm hoping I don't have to remove the wire. Especially if the ducting has an inner liner. We'll see. Tim K |
